Studying Abroad in College - How to Decide Where to Go

As a student, deciding to study abroad in a foreign country is one of the best decisions you can make in your life. You get to experience a different culture, explore various sites and be on your own. It’s a very exciting time and a unique experience to have. Therefore, you have to make some important decisions for where you want to go abroad.

First, you should decide whether you want to go to an English-speaking country or not. The typical choices for this are either England or Australia, but many other destinations have many English-speaking people, such as Prague in the Czech Republic or Belgium. Any of these choices will allow you to communicate with the locals easily, while integrating yourself in a new culture.

If you happen to be majoring in a foreign language or feel comfortable speaking one, check out countries that predominately speak that specific language. Spain, France and Italy are popular options and are some of the best spots to study abroad. By living amongst the people, you’ll have a much easier time improving your language skills and you’ll feel more apart of the society.

Another option that some students love is a semester at sea. Semester at Sea basically is like a long cruise where you live on a large boat and explore many regions of the world. This is a fantastic experience for people who want to see many different places. Just make sure you can handle living on a boat for an extended period of time.

Good luck to you on your journey, wherever you decide to go, and really appreciate your time while studying abroad. It will give you lasting memories and hopefully you’ll make some lifelong friends in the process.
